Neighborhood Watch

We are looking for volunteers to help out with setting up the neighborhood watch program. We need people to  be block captains. If you are interested please email me at RobynBaird@gmail.com. Thank you!!

The Neighborhood Watch Program

Meridian’s Neighborhood Watch program is designed to increase the safety and
livability in our community by organizing and involving individuals and families in a
united crime prevention effort. Neighborhood Watch participants learn how to:

· Be familiar with neighbors and activities on the block
· Recognize and report suspicious activity
· Increase home and vehicle security
· Engrave and document property correctly
· Make your neighborhood less attractive to criminals
· Communicate regularly with neighbors using block maps and communication
networks
· Assist local police
· Organize to deal with a variety of other non-crime issues, such as livability and
neighborhood or city wide concerns
· Stay active in order to receive the benefits of Neighborhood Watch!




The Goals of Neighborhood Watch

1. Reduce the level of fear of crime in our neighborhoods. Knowledge builds
awareness and lessens the fear of crime.
2. To increase neighborhood livability and reduce crime in our neighborhoods.
3. Build a stronger sense of community in our neighborhoods
4. Develop a viable communication network for neighbors
We believe it is the responsibility of residents (working with the police) to build and
maintain livable and cohesive neighborhoods and to support and assist each other in
the prevention of crime.
We believe that involved residents, businesses and police, working cooperatively
towards these ends, create a united and secure community and reduce vulnerability to
crime.


Neighborhood Watch Roles and Responsibilities

Block Captain
· Coordinates the design, development and distribution of the Neighborhood Watch map
and communication network
· Ensures that the Neighborhood Watch map, and communication network are up to date,
(at least yearly) and that Meridian Police - Crime Prevention Office has a current copy.
· Relays information about crime and nuisance activity in their neighborhood to the
appropriate resource. (Crime Prevention Specialist, Meridian Police etc.)
· Acts as the primary contact person between the Crime Prevention Specialist/ Meridian
Police / and their neighborhood
· Coordinates collecting money for purchasing and installing the Neighborhood Watch
signs
· Encourages full participation in the Neighborhood Watch Program.
· Coordinates the welcoming of new household into the Neighborhood Watch
· Coordinates scheduling meetings, trainings and social gatherings such as National
Night Out.
· Finds a replacement if no longer able to fulfill the duties of Block Captain.
 
Co-Captain
· Assists and supports the Block Captain. The Block Captain and Co-Captain many
function as a team, sharing the Block Captain’s duties equally.
· Performs the Block Captain’s duties if the Block Captain is unable to do so.
· Interacts with Neighborhood Watch members to learn of neighborhood needs and
concerns.

Neighborhood Watch Member
· Assists the Block Captain in putting together the block map and communication network
· Assists block captain with organizing efforts by helping with refreshments, hosting
follow-up meetings and assisting with block parties.
· Participates in the communication network: passing on messages as part of the
network and informing neighbors of crimes and suspicious activity.
· Attends Neighborhood Watch meetings and social gatherings if possible.
· Works to develop trust and communication with neighbors.
· Keeps an eye on neighbors’ homes and reports suspicious activity and crimes in
progress when they are happening, not later.
· Implements personal safety, home security and property identification strategies and
works to make the block less attractive to criminals.
· Works to find options and solutions to neighborhood issues and finds ways that
members can be involved in the problem solving process.

Crime Prevention Specialist
· Provides initial Neighborhood Watch materials and trainings
· Helps motivate and support Block Captain and Co-Captain in organizing efforts
· Distributes information on how/where to purchase Neighborhood Watch signs
· Establishes and maintains communication with the Neighborhood Watch groups
· Assists in problem solving efforts. Helps Neighborhood Watch members find solutions
to common problems
· Maintains Neighborhood Watch file with current neighborhood map, communication
network and other items as necessary
· Sends out alerts and other information to the Neighborhood Watch when appropriate.

Meridian Police and other Government Agencies:

· Assist in problem solving efforts
· Attend Neighborhood Watch meetings when invited, if possible
· Provide crime statistics and other public safety and livability information
· Supports the concept of Neighborhood Watch and the strength of the program

Sidewalk

Plans to finish the sidewalk on east side of Red Horse just before Joshua Tree is set for July 18th. If you have any questions or concerns please call Joe at Snake River HOA.

Firewood

You may have seen the most of the big trees have been cut down. I instructed them to leave the logs stacked up for homeowners to use as firewood if they wanted. they will haul them away soon, so pass the word around that they are first come first serve.

Board Meeting Update

The board met tonight and have discussed a few issues they've asked me to forward to everyone.
Now that the pool is open we as a neighborhood need to be the eyes and ears on monitoring the pool. Already we have had one of the bathrooms vandalized. The door was kicked in and broken. They proceeded to vandalize the interior of the bathroom. Some teenagers have been caught sitting on the roofs again. Another issue are people not from the subdivision using our pool. If you see people letting others in that don't have a pool key or any of these other issues happening please voice up. Let us know or let the parents know what is going on. If you are the last one to leave the pool for the night kindly lower all the umbrellas to keep from the wind blowing them over and breaking them. We already have had to replace one. All these little things that I've discussed can really help out with costs, problems & vandalism if we all help out.
Jared Mortensen is the eagle scout that met with us last night. He is offering approximately 30 scouts to canvas our neighborhood for two days to obtain contact information from all the neighbors and find volunteers for the block captains for the neighborhood watch program. I gave him a map of our subdivision and he will mark those homes that are vacant or that were unable to be reached. He is planning on doing this June 22 and 23. Once we get the information, we will have a block captain meeting with the city of meridian neighborhood watch representative to explain the program and how we are to proceed.
We want to leverage the canvassing that the scouts are going to do by sending out proxy ballots to change our CCR’s. Once we get a list of what the board suggests, we will forward this list to our attorney for suggested changes and put his legal stamp of approval on the process.

Pool Party

Don't forget that our annual pool party is this Saturday from 12pm - 6pm. Let's hope that the weather treats us nice. There will be bounce houses and face painting. Bring your own chairs and food. This will be a blast. Be sure to come!

Pool Opens

The pool opens this weekend for Saguaro Canyon. If you've just moved in be sure to go to Snake River HOA's office to get your pool key. Please try to remember the pool rules and regulations.
SAGUARO CANYON
POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Hours of Operation are from 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M daily starting Memorial Day
Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
2. NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY All persons using the pool do so at their own risk.
Owners and managers will not be responsible for accidents and injuries.
3. Owners and managers will not be responsible for articles lost, stolen or damaged.
4. NO DIVING. RUNNING. PUSHING OR SHOVING in or around the pool area.
5. The pool is exclusively for the use of the homeowners of the subdivision and guests of the homeowner when accompanied by the homeowner. Homeowner assumes all
responsibility for their guests as well as for their supervision.
6. To insure space for all homeowners please limit your guests to two (2) per residence.
7. Children under the age of thirteen (13) shall not use the pool without an adult in
attendance.
8. Children must be properly attired, no diapers allowed with exception of swim diapers.
9. Swimmers must shower before entering pool.
10. Any person known to be, or suspected of being afflicted with an infectious disease, suffering from a cough, cold, sores or wearing bandages shall be excluded from using the pool facilities unless such person submits a written statement, signed by a licensed physician, confirming that the person does not present a health hazard to other pool users, or permission is given by Home Owners Association.
11. No pets in the pool area.
12. No food may be served or eaten in or around the pool area at any time without Home
--Owners Association's consent. Refreshments must be served in unbreakable containers.
13. All refuse must be placed in trash containers and pool furniture must be clean before departure.
14. No alcoholic beverages shall be served or consumed in or around the pool area at anytime. No person under the influence of alcoholic beverages is permitted in or near the pool.
15. No Glass or glass containers of any kind.
16. No Smoking.
17. Abusive/foul language, "horseplay", fighting, boisterous or dangerous conduct and/or any noisy behavior disturbing to the other homeowners is forbidden in or around the pool area.
18. No skateboards, roller blades, scooters or bikes in the pool area.
19. No radios, media devices, or other musical instruments may be used in or around the pool area without written consent of Home Owners Association.
20. Homeowners and their guests are required to be properly attired at all times, going to and from and in or around the pool area. Proper attire is swimming suits only. No cut off jeans, tee shirts or shorts will be allowed as swimwear.
21. Homeowners and guests will place their towels over pool furniture when using suntan oil or other lotions ..
22. No toys, inner tubes or any other objects whatsoever will be allowed in the pool area.
23. Any damage to the pool, equipment or fixtures will be paid for by the responsible party.
24. Safety equipment is not to be used except in case of emergency.
25. Doors and/or gates must be kept locked.
26. Pool keys will not be provided to non-members or duplicated.
27. Only Association Homeowners in good standing may use the pool facilities.
28. Please return pool key card to Snake River Homeowners Association
Management when and if you sell your home. If you should lose or misplace
your key card please contact Snake River. They will replace your pool key card
at a cost of thirty five dollars ($35.00).
